Types of Allied Health Services
There are many different allied health services out there, which can be highly confusing. How do we know which one we need and what each service does? Below is a very brief list of allied health professionals that speech pathologists often work with.
If you have concerns for your child’s development, it is recommended that you seek professional services by following the provided association websites below, or send us an inquiry and we can provide some assistance.

Speech Pathology
Speech pathologists can diagnose and treat communication or swallowing disorders. They commonly help individuals with their speech, language, literacy, social skills, stuttering, voice or feeding/swallowing concerns. Finding the right speech pathologist may be difficult due to the large range of practice areas that clinicians work with. To find the right fit, speak to the clinician about what they specialise in and whether they can best support your concerns.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists help enable people to participate in their everyday occupations of life, including self-care activities, productive activities and leisure/social activities. They might do this by providing home modification and work with clients to develop a routine and habit around daily living activities.
Psychology
Psychologists study the human behaviour and can help people adjust the way they think, feel, behave and react. This involves understanding the brain, memory, learning and processes around human development.
Behaviour Support
Behaviour support practitioners (BSPs) will assess the individual to determine their behaviours and the influences. They formulate strategies to increase a person’s quality of life to reduce challenging behaviours or restrictive practices.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists work with people of all ages to assess and treat a broad range of health conditions relating to the body and its movement, including sports injuries, musculoskeletal conditions as well as chronic health conditions.
Audiology
Audiologists aim to help them to preserve, manage and improve their hearing, their ability to process and understand sounds (and balance). They can recommend implantable devices to aid with hearing and balance.
