Funding Schemes

If you are seeking or already engaging with speech therapy supports, you may be eligible for certain funding schemes or financial assistance. Below is a list of funding options that many speech pathologists work with:

NDIS

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The NDIS provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and an improved quality of life.

Children younger than 6 do not need a diagnosis to get support through the early childhood approach if there are concerns about their development. There are two ways your child can meet the requirement for this option:

(1) Your child has a disability recognised by the NDIS,

(2) Your child has a developmental delay,

(2) You have an impairment that is likely to be permanent.

*Please refer to the relevant links for further information and specific criterion.

Medicare

You may be eligible a partial rebate of up to 5 allied health sessions* per calendar year under the Chronic disease individual allied health services Medicare items. To access this rebate, you will need a GP referral and completion of a general practitioner management plan (GPMP) and team care arrangements (TCAs) forms.

*Please note these 5 sessions include all allied health services you have visited.

If your child is not under the NDIS and has a diagnosis of autism or other pervasive developmental disorders, you may be eligible for the Helping Children with Autism package. Please consult your paediatrician or GP for further information.

TAC

If you are injured in a transport accident in Victoria, you can make a TAC claim to help pay for the treatment and support you need. You will need to meet the requirements and gain a referral from your GP or occupational therapist to gain access to speech pathology services under the TAC claim.

Private

If you have private insurance, you may need to ask your insurance company on their benefits and covers. You may need to provide your insurance company with the therapist details to determine whether they provide cover for your sessions.
